Mortise locks are a big investment so make sure you aren’t getting shortchanged. Some locksmiths or hardware dealers are getting sneaky and only selling the trim and then nickel and diming you for the individual lock components and mounting hardware. Don’t fall into that trap.

When you buy a mortise lock each of these components should be included in the price:

Exterior and Interior Trim - The part of the Mortise Lock Cylinder you actually see. The trim should included the handle, knob or lever that goes on the outside of your door and the knob or lever that goes on the inside of your door. If you are buying a “dummy knob” then these are the only parts you’ll need. If you’re buying an Entrance set (a fully functional lock) than you’ll need the rest of these components as well.
